Victor Osimhen, long regarded as one of world football’s top No.9s, is set to remain at Galatasaray after his impressive loan spell in Turkey, marking a surprising twist in the Nigerian striker’s career.

Osimhen, who played a pivotal role in Napoli’s 2022–23 Scudetto triumph with 26 goals, was once tipped to join European giants like Real Madrid, PSG, or a Premier League club.
Yet, despite being in the prime of his career and boasting an €80 million price tag, the 26-year-old has seen interest from Europe’s elite fade.
His loan to Galatasaray last season was born out of necessity rather than strategy, following Napoli’s failure to secure a permanent buyer.

Osimhen thrived, finishing as the Super Lig’s top scorer with 37 goals in 41 matches and helping Galatasaray to a third consecutive league title. Yet, even with his €75 million release clause now reduced, top clubs have remained hesitant.
Much of the hesitation stems from financial concerns. Premier League clubs, mindful of Profit & Sustainability Rules, backed away due to Osimhen’s high wage demands.
Reasons Why Top European Clubs Didn’t Sign Victor Osimhen

Chelsea reportedly showed interest, but only under performance-based salary conditions, which Osimhen declined. Arsenal and Liverpool opted for alternatives, investing in less proven strikers.
Perceptions about his temperament may also have played a role. Though widely praised by coaches and teammates as humble and hardworking, some in England speculated whether his strong personality might upset squad harmony.
Injury history raised additional concerns. Though physically brave and available for over 30 games each season since his teenage years, Osimhen has suffered recurring muscular injuries and previously underwent surgery after a skull fracture in 2021.
With a move to Al-Hilal falling through and European interest cooling, Galatasaray seized the opportunity. The Turkish giants matched his buy-out clause and offered him a lucrative €15 million net salary per year. More importantly, Osimhen found a sense of belonging in Istanbul.
Galatasaray, led by Okan Buruk, are building ambitiously, with notable signings like Leroy Sane and targets including Manchester City’s Ederson. The club is preparing a strong Champions League campaign, and Osimhen, now the face of the project, seems ready to lead them forward.
While it may feel like a step down from Europe’s elite, Osimhen’s decision reflects a shift in priorities, seeking stability, form, and faith from a club and fanbase that truly value him.
