Manchester United have reportedly joined Bayern Munich and other European giants in the pursuit of 20-year-old Norwegian centre-back Eivind Helland, who is currently making waves at SK Brann in Norway.

According to The Sun, United scouts were in attendance during a recent Brann fixture to assess Helland’s performance, and although the youngster was sent off in a defeat to KFUM, he remains firmly on their radar.

With Harry Maguire entering the final year of his contract, the Red Devils are beginning to lay the groundwork for a long-term successor, and Helland appears to be a strong candidate.

Helland, who has already captained Norway’s Under-21 side, received massive praise from his club coach, Freyr Alexandersson, who boldly compared the young defender to Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, citing his calmness, intelligence, and distribution from the back.

Alexandersson even claimed Helland has “the potential to be the best centre-back Norway has ever produced.”

Standing at 6’5”, Helland offers an imposing physical presence in defence but is also known for his technical ability. His composure on the ball and knack for launching pinpoint long passes from deep positions have attracted interest from several top-tier clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg.

The competition for his signature is heating up quickly, with Bayern Munich believed to be monitoring him closely. The German champions had a scout present during his last outing, further underlining the growing attention Helland is commanding across the continent.

United’s focus this summer has primarily been on bolstering their attack, but defensive reinforcements are now a clear priority as the club prepares for a future without Maguire. In addition to Helland, the Red Devils are also said to be eyeing reinforcements in midfield and attack, with players like Ollie Watkins, Benjamin Šeško, and Javi Guerra also linked with summer moves.

While a transfer is not imminent, Helland’s rising profile suggests he won’t remain in Norway much longer. As one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, his next move could mark a significant step toward fulfilling his sky-high potential.
