Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has made a bold prediction about where the club will finish in the upcoming 2025/26 Premier League season, under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand said he expects the Red Devils to finish around seventh or eighth, marking a potential improvement from their disastrous 15th-place finish last season.

> “I’m going eighth. Seventh or eighth,” he stated, before adding, “Revisit this if we get one or two more signings, and I might change my answer.”

United Aiming for a Rebuild

Manchester United’s 2024/25 campaign ended in disappointment, with the team narrowly avoiding relegation and finishing at their lowest-ever position in Premier League history.

However, hopes are higher this time around following the appointment of Amorim and several key signings.

The Red Devils have already secured Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both expected to add more firepower and creativity to the squad. Ferdinand believes that with a few more additions, especially in midfield or attack, United could climb even higher in the league table.

New Striker Still a Priority

Reports indicate Amorim is still actively seeking to strengthen the squad. A new striker remains a top priority, with Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko reportedly shortlisted to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund and newly signed Joshua Zirkzee.

Despite not having European football distractions this season, the challenge remains steep. Yet, Ferdinand’s prediction suggests cautious optimism that United can stabilize and begin climbing back toward the top.
