Six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year, “Asisat Oshoala”, has revealed the names of three Nigerian football legends who played pivotal roles in shaping her illustrious career.
Speaking in a recent interview with “Arise News”, the Super Falcons star expressed heartfelt admiration for “Perpetua Nkwocha, Precious Dede, and Rita Chikwelu.
“These are the people that paved the way for someone like me to be able to come into the Super Falcons and enjoy certain things,” Oshoala said.
A Privilege to Share the Pitch
The Bay FC striker, who began her football journey with Robo Queens and rose through the ranks at Rivers Angels, described her time playing with some of these legends as a privilege.
“You have the goalkeeper Precious Dede, Rita Chikwelu. I was fortunate to play with some of them before they retired,” Oshoala stated.
She also emphasized the legacy of Perpetua Nkwocha, whose goal-scoring records continue to serve as a benchmark for younger players.
Oshoala’s Legacy: From Nigeria to Europe
Now 30, Oshoala has left her mark across Europe, representing Liverpool, Arsenal, Dalian Quanjian, and Barcelona, before moving to Bay FC in the U.S. Her trophy cabinet includes:
1. 4-time WAFCON champion.
2. 2015 FA Women’s Cup winner.
3. 2019–20 Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de España Femenina titles.
4. First African to score in a UEFA Women’s Champions League final.
