Payne played a crucial role as the Super Falcons overcame hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to clinch their 10th continental title. Nigeria staged an incredible comeback after going two goals down at halftime, with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini sealing victory.

Since switching her international allegiance from the United States to Nigeria in 2019, Payne’s journey with the Super Falcons has been remarkable. The 29-year-old’s creativity and composure in midfield were instrumental in Nigeria’s success during the tournament.

Club and Country Success

Payne joined Everton in mid-2024 and quickly became an important figure for the Toffees, registering 22 league appearances, one goal, and five assists in the 2024/2025 season. Her return to Merseyside as a WAFCON champion has further cemented her reputation as one of Africa’s top female footballers.

The Super Falcons’ victory has been celebrated across Nigeria and beyond, marking yet another chapter in their dominance of African women’s football. For Payne, it was both a personal milestone and a moment of national pride.
