According to David Ornstein, Chelsea have officially informed Bayern Munich that they will not proceed with the proposed loan of striker Nicolas Jackson, following a serious injury to Liam Delap.

The 24-year-old Senegal international had already travelled to Germany to finalize his move, but the Blues requested his immediate return to London after Delap’s setback.

The 22-year-old Delap, who joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £31 million this summer, limped off during the first half of Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Fulham at Stamford Bridge. Manager Enzo Maresca later confirmed it was a hamstring injury that could rule him out for six to eight weeks.
Squad Depth Concerns Grow
The injury has left Chelsea critically short of attacking options, with only João Pedro and academy prospect Tyrique George available as natural forwards. Christopher Nkunku’s sale to AC Milan earlier this window and Cole Palmer’s ongoing groin problem further compound the situation.
Chelsea’s decision to block Jackson’s exit comes as the club seeks to maintain enough firepower ahead of a challenging run of fixtures against Brentford and Arsenal. Jackson, who scored 17 goals across all competitions last season, is now expected to play a central role in Maresca’s plans until Delap returns.
VAR Drama Overshadowed by Injury Woes
Despite João Pedro and Enzo Fernández securing the win over Fulham, VAR controversy dominated headlines after a Fulham goal was disallowed for minimal contact. However, the bigger concern for Chelsea remains their mounting injury crisis.
With Levi Colwill, Roméo Lavia, and Benoît Badiashile also sidelined, Maresca faces a critical test of his squad’s resilience. The cancellation of Jackson’s loan is seen as a necessary move to prevent a full-blown striker crisis at Stamford Bridge.
