Enzo Fernandez’s Season-Ending Injury and Surgery

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez will be sidelined for the remainder of the Premier League season due to a groin injury requiring surgery, according to Daily Mail.

Argentine outlet Ole reports that Fernandez has been grappling with an inguinal hernia for over a month, necessitating medical intervention. Chelsea’s medical team initially attempted a non-invasive approach, but consultations with Argentina’s doctors led to the decision for surgery.

Opting for Surgery Ahead of Copa America

With Chelsea’s season effectively over following their FA Cup exit, Fernandez, a World Cup winner, will undergo surgery and is expected to miss approximately three weeks of action.

This timing ensures his availability for the Copa America, commencing on June 20 in the United States. Before proceeding with the surgery, Fernandez consulted with a trusted kinesiologist from his River Plate days, who accompanied him to London for the procedure.

Remaining fixtures and Chelsea’s outlook

Despite Fernandez’s absence, Chelsea still have six Premier League matches remaining and maintain hopes of qualifying for the Europa League. They trail sixth-placed Manchester United by six points with a game in hand. Their upcoming fixtures include trips to Villa Park, Forest, and Brighton, along with home clashes against Tottenham, West Ham, and Bournemouth on the final
