Southampton manager Russell Martin has praised the performance of Super Eagles striker Paul in a pre-season friendly match against Getafe.

Onuachu signed for Southampton from Genk in January 2023 but failed to make desired impact due to limited playing time which saw the Saints relegated to EPL.

Loan Spells

In the previous season, the Nigerian forward spent time on loan at Trabzonspor, where he bagged 17 goals and four assists in 24 games.

The Super Eagles striker who delivered a stunning solo goal in the Turkish Cup final for Trabzonspor as reported by Sportsbuddy, has been approached by the Turkish side to sign the Super eagles striker on a permanent deal, although the transfer has stagnated with Southampton demanding €13 million.

In contrast, Onuachu has been training with Southampton since the start of the pre-season but did not feature in any matches until his 17-minute appearance against Getafe, which ended in a goalless draw.

Russell Martin was happy with Onuachu’s performance and stated he was very confident compared to the last season.

Speaking to the Daily Echo He said, “He is a different Paul to what I saw last season in terms of confidence and the last pre-season was really tough on most of them, This summer he’s a different beast, and as long as he is here, same as Kyle Walker-Peters, we will try and use him. ”

Such comments indicated that Onuachu could still feature for Southampton next season and may return to the Premier League.
