Just days after conceding to Nicolas Jackson’s improvement, John Mikel Obi has criticised another Chelsea star, suggesting the club needs a player of higher a standard.
Mikel had initially questioned Jackson’s goal-scoring abilities after Chelsea’s 2-0 loss in the league opener against Manchester City—a criticism that sparked a response from the 23-year-old striker, who fired back at the club legend with a scathing message on Instagram.

But with the striker firing on all cylinders, recording a total of seven goal contributions in the last five league appearances, Mikel Obi has admitted that he is proving him wrong.
However, the former Super Eagles captain has turned his attention to another player, calling out goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for his howlers against Brighton.

Mikel Obi on Sanchez

Mikel said on the Obionepodcast, via Vince on X,
“No disrespect to Robert Sanchez, he’s a fantastic goalkeeper but we need a top, top goalkeeper to compete.
”If he wants to become a top goalkeeper, he needs to start putting in those performances.
”We know he’s not very good with his feet, that’s not a problem but we need a goalkeeper that’s assured in the goal, can make saves but I watched the game on Saturday and he was at fault for both goals.”

While the Spaniard had a poor performance last weekend, he recorded back-to-back clean sheets in two previous games, including a penalty save against Bournemouth.
