Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Dessers has been a divisive figure at Rangers, and his time at the club could be nearing an end following Peter Martin’s recent transfer update.

The 29-year-old has featured regularly under Philippe Clement, but the manager has made a shift in the number nine position recently.

This change has brought success, with Hamza Igamane stepping up. The 22-year-old has started Rangers’ last three matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing an assist.

Clement appears to have found a fix for Rangers’ scoring struggles, and Dessers is no longer central to those plans.

Brazilian striker Danilo has also returned to fitness, showing better link-up play with teammates compared to the Nigerian. Dessers, formerly of Cremonese, may now be out of Clement’s plans.

With the January transfer window approaching, speculation about the 29-year-old’s future has grown.

Speaking on the PLZ Football Podcast , Peter Martin said:

“I think we’ve got to cut Philippe Clement some slack. Although, at times, he’s been wittering on. This is the first time he’s had three strikers to call on for the full season. And he wants a striker in the window.”

In a previous report from Sports Buddy, the Super Eagles striker, has said he turned to a psychologist while on loan to Feyenoord in 2021 to help with his mental health.

January Could Be a Turning Point

Clement is reportedly searching for another striker despite already having Dessers, Igamane, and Danilo available.

Rangers’ attack has struggled, particularly away from home, where they’ve scored just three league goals.

If a new forward arrives, Dessers may need to leave to secure playing time. A January exit could suit all parties, especially if reinforcements arrive at Ibrox.
