The 14th edition of the UEFA Women’s European Championship in Switzerland has lived up to its billing, with top-class football, dramatic finishes, and exceptional individual performances lighting up the tournament. While teams battle for continental glory, attention is turning to the tournament’s standout attackers.

Spain’s Esther Gonzalez currently leads the Golden Boot race with four goals, staking her claim as one of Europe’s deadliest forwards. Close behind her are Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius, Italy’s Cristiana Girelli, and Spain’s Alexia Putellas, all tied on three goals.
A strong chasing pack, featuring the likes of Kosovare Asllani, Jule Brand, Lauren James, Marie-Antoinette Katoto, and Georgia Stanway, have each netted twice and remain firmly in the hunt as their nations eye deeper runs in the knockout stages.
Notably, Spain, England, Sweden, and France have multiple players contributing to their goals tally, underlining the offensive firepower at their disposal. Other single-goal scorers, such as Agnes Beever-Jones and Mariona Caldentey, have also made their presence felt with crucial strikes.
Historically, Germany has dominated the scoring charts, with legends like Inka Grings and Birgit Prinz still holding the all-time record of 10 goals each. Grings notably netted six in the 2009 tournament alone, while Prinz’s consistency saw her notch goals across five different editions.
Despite a storied past and rising competition, no player has yet broken the elusive single-tournament seven-goal barrier. Beth Mead and Alexandra Popp came closest in 2022, each bagging six.
As Euro 2025 advances toward the quarter-finals, all eyes remain on whether Gonzalez can extend her lead, and whether any player can rise to the historic challenge of becoming the competition’s highest single-edition scorer.
