RB Leipzig Sporting Director Marcel Schäfer has finally responded to the swirling rumors surrounding Benjamin Sesko’s potential move to the Premier League, amid strong interest from clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Sesko Left Out Amid Transfer Talks
Following Leipzig’s 2-1 preseason defeat to Atalanta, Schäfer addressed the forward’s absence from the squad. “Due to substantial interest from several clubs, we decided he wouldn’t play today. When I say strong interest and approaches have been made, it’s obvious what’s happening,” he told Sky Germany.
The Slovenian striker has been heavily linked with a summer exit, with both Manchester United and Newcastle pushing hard for his signature. Reports suggest Newcastle’s opening bid has already been rejected, but the Tyneside club is expected to return with an improved offer.
Sesko was previously close to joining Arsenal before negotiations collapsed, allowing other suitors to intensify their pursuit. Despite the interest, Schäfer clarified, “That doesn’t mean he’s on his way to another club, but it also doesn’t mean Benji will play next week.”
