The Liverpool defender’s remarks suggested that winning trophies holds greater significance for his team than it does for City, prompting responses from Haaland and Ruben Dias ahead of Sunday’s crucial title clash.

Guardiola, however, remains unfazed by Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure from Liverpool and believes that the most effective response to such comments is to deliver a strong performance at Merseyside.

‘‘They defend the club not by responding to this guy but what they have done for many years on the pitch every three days,’ Guardiola said.

‘’That is the best way. I could answer but why (bother)? It is what it is. I’m incredibly proud of what we have done and I don’t need that to feel that my players are really trying to do it.

“I’m so happy with my players all the time over many, many years. Do you think we’re going to fight because Erling and Ruben talk? We know what happened over the last years and we are going to try again.’

”Guardiola sarcastically added of the injured Alexander-Arnold, ‘‘I wish him well. I wish him a speedy recovery to come back to the pitch as soon as possible.”, he said,  acccording to daily mail.
