Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has restated his conviction that he is “among the best” in the world in his position, providing a few examples to support his claims.
The 30-year-old Turkish midfielder, whose contract with AC Milan ended in the summer of 2021, shocked the Rossoneri fan base by choosing to join the Nerazzurri on a free transfer.
Calhanoglu was an offensive midfielder for Milan, but Simone Inzaghi used him as a deeper regista in a five-man midfield to rehabilitate him at Inter. In this role, he has excelled and has transformed his career.
Calhanoglou’s speech
In an interview with DAZN as reported by Calciomercato.com, Calhanoglu first talked about how confident he is in his position.
“Months ago, I said I was among the best regista in the world, and no one believed me. But I always believe in myself, I know my qualities and I’m not afraid of anyone.”
When asked to give his top five regista rankings, the Turkish midfielder said, “Fifth Enzo Fernandez, fourth Kimmich, third Kroos, second Rodri, first Calhanoglu.”
Speaking on his knack to play longer balls and shots rather than close-range ones.
“I score goals and do what the others don’t. If you check, I never score from close range, but from 25-30 meters out or from a free kick. These are difficult things. And if you look the others don’t do it like me.
“Then everyone is good at passing, but I don’t like playing passes five meters away. I always look for the final pass, to increase the possibility of scoring. Giving it to the right or left doesn’t help me,” he added.
The Turkish midfielder has been instrumental in Inter’s impressive campaign this season, recording 11 goals and 3 assists in 30 appearances.
