Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has given an update on the injury situation of Super Eagles full-back Ola Aina.
Aina’s impressive AFCON display
Aina, 27, was selected for the AFCON 2023 team of the tournament following his impressive performance, which was instrumental in helping Nigeria advance to the final of the competition in Ivory Coast.
The former Torino wing-back was a starter in each of the Super Eagles’ seven games during the AFCON 2023 as a part of a formidable defence, where he played both as a right-wing back and a left-wing back.
Aina, during the final match against the hosts, appeared jaded and exhausted, but he continued to play the entire game as the Super Eagles lost 2-1.
After the competition, he returned to Nottingham Forest’s training but hasn’t played for the club since then at the Olympic Stadium in Ébimpé.
Espirito provides update on Ola Aina’s injury
Nottingham coach Espirito has provided an update on the condition of the Nigerian full-back, as well as two of the AFCON 2023 winners in the squad.
“We have some problems. Ola Aina, Willy Boly and Ibrahim Sangare all returned injured and their return date cannot be scheduled right now,” the Portuguese manager said on the club’s official website in his pre-game presser ahead of their game against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
Nottingham Forest currently sits sixteenth on the English Premier League table, four points ahead of Everton and Luton Town, who both have twenty points.
