Jurgen Klopp has overtaken Arsene Wenger in the Premier League manager rankings, as asserted by former Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit
The departing Liverpool manager is widely regarded as one of the top coaches in his generation, earning acclaim for his successes at Borussia Dortmund and Anfield.
Since joining Liverpool in 2015, the German has secured notable victories in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Club World Cup, showcasing an attractive, high-pressing style of football.
As he prepares to leave at the end of the season, Klopp still has the opportunity to increase his trophy count, as Liverpool remains competitive in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Europa League.
While Sir Alex Ferguson, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, and Wenger are often hailed as the best four Premier League managers of all time, Klopp is just outside that elite group, primarily due to winning the title only once.
According to Petit, who played a role in Wenger’s first three titles, Klopp has surpassed Arsenal’s legendary manager.
Petit notes Klopp’s achievements in winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup, suggesting that these accomplishments elevate him above Wenger.
While Wenger won the Premier League three times and achieved the iconic Invincible year, Petit highlights the missed opportunity in the Champions League final against Barcelona as the key distinction between the two managers.
‘You would have to say Arsene Wenger has been surpassed by Klopp because he has won the Premier League and Champions League as well as both the FA Cup and League Cup so it speaks for itself,’ the former midfielder told OCB Scores.
What did Emmanuel Petit say?
According to reports from Metrosports, Petit expressed his perspective, stating, “Wenger won the Premier League three times and everybody remembers the Invincible year, but they failed in their chance to win the Champions League final against Barcelona; that is the only difference between them.”
He continued, “But in terms of impact and how Wenger competed with Sir Alex Ferguson was incredible. The only comparison I can make is how Klopp has competed against Pep Guardiola. We need more rivalries like that because it makes the league the best in the world.”
