Tuchel Fumes Over Missed Handball Call in Arsenal Draw
Reports by ESPN claimed Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is livid after a controversial refereeing decision during his team’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Contentious Calls Mar the Match
The game was marked by several close calls, including a potential penalty shout for Arsenal in stoppage time and a second possible penalty that The German believes should have been awarded to Bayern Munich.
Tuchel Erupts Over Missed Handball
Tuchel’s primary gripe centers on a decision made in the 66th minute.
With the score at 2-1 to Bayern, David Raya, the Arsenal goalkeeper, attempted a short goal kick to Gabriel.
However, Gabriel picked up the ball with his hands before attempting to restart play.

Although Bayern Munich players protested the incident, referee Glenn Nyberg waved off their appeals.
Tuchel is furious about the decision and the explanation provided by the referee.
Tuchel Questions Referee’s Explanation
“In my view, and for everyone watching, the referee made a huge mistake by not awarding a penalty for the handball,” fumed Tuchel after the match.
"This is a horrible, horrible explanation."

He acknowledged the unusual situation but emphasized that Gabriel’s handling of the live ball was a clear foul.
Tuchel went on to criticize the referee’s explanation, stating: “What truly infuriates us is the justification he gave on the field.
He told our players it was a ‘kid’s mistake’ and something he wouldn’t penalize in a Champions League quarter-final.
This is a terrible excuse. He’s officiating handballs. It doesn’t matter if it’s a kid’s mistake or an adult’s mistake.”
The German feels Bayern Munich were unfairly denied a clear scoring opportunity due to the referee’s decision.
Looking Ahead to the Second Leg
The second leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash between Bayern Munich and Arsenal will be played next Wednesday in Munich. Both teams will be aiming to secure a place in the semi-finals.
