Arsenal’s aspirations for the title took a hit today with a surprising 2-0 loss to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

Emery, who faced challenges during his tenure at Arsenal and was dismissed due to poor results, managed to triumph against his former club.

Following his departure, Arteta took over the reins at Arsenal. Emery, who later managed Villareal, notably defeated Arsenal in the Europa League semi-final in 2021, denying the Gunners a chance to secure their first UEFA trophy.

Today, Emery had another opportunity to retaliate against Arsenal, and he succeeded as his team secured a victory with two late goals from Leon Bailey and Olie Watkins.

This defeat leaves Arsenal’s title aspirations hanging by a thread as they now trail Manchester City by two points, with a tougher run of fixtures ahead.

Unai Emery’s speech

Unai Emery after the game in his press conference said, “Before the match, we were very motivated and very excited about the possibility. This [was] a very tough match and we needed to be focusing very well defensively.

“We wanted to be strong and have high commitment to defence as were in the first half. We tried to do 90 minutes being consistent and wait for our moment to control the game.

“The first half was more difficult but we tried to dominate with the ball. We did that less than in the second half. Second half we competed very well. But we are not being consistent in every match like I want. But today we were fantastic,” as reported by Daily Mail.

Meanwhile Sports Buddy reported in previous news that Former Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo has placed Unai Emery on the same level as top-tier coaches like Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, and Jurgen Klopp.
