Anthony Gordon has encouraged Marc Guehi to choose Newcastle United over Arsenal and Manchester United if he decides to leave Crystal Palace this summer. Both Arsenal and United have expressed interest in the 23-year-old centre-back following his impressive season with Palace. Newcastle have also shown interest in Guehi, who is valued at over £55 million by Palace. Anthony Gordon, Guehi’s England teammate, expressed his enthusiasm for the potential move.
Gordon Praises Guehi’s Talent
When asked about Guehi’s potential move to Newcastle, Anthony Gordon told talkSPORT, “I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team.” Guehi recently delivered a solid performance in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia in the Euro 2024 Group C opener, further showcasing his abilities.
Impressive Performance Against Serbia
Gordon has been particularly impressed with Guehi’s composure on the ball. “He’s top, he’s such a good player and I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he’s such a lovely guy and he deserves what’s coming to him,” Gordon said. He added, “I thought he was unbelievable in that game [against Serbia] considering his height compared to the strikers they had on. He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads and his main strength is composure on the ball, he’s like a midfielder.”
Potential Defensive Partnership
Anthony Gordon highlighted the potential for Guehi to form a formidable defensive partnership with John Stones. “So him and Stonesy at the back, it’s a great partnership to control a game,” he noted. With Newcastle aiming to strengthen their squad, Gordon’s endorsement of Guehi underscores the defender’s quality and potential impact at St James’ Park.
