Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has finally opened up on situations surrounding his future with the national team.
Musa did not participate in any of Nigeria’s seven games at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), , as the team finished as runners-up, losing in the final to host nation Ivory Coast.
The former star of CSKA Moscow last started for the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifying match against Cape Verde in 2021. He played 67 minutes in the team’s 2-0 victory.
Musa’s last game before the AFCON started was a quick seven-minute cameo against Guinea in a friendly in January.
His lack of a club after he amicably terminated his contract with Turkish side Sivasspor in February has contributed to rumors that he is retiring.
Additionally, he was left out of Nigeria’s squads for the March international friendlies and the June World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

In spite of these developments, Musa maintains that he remains committed to the national team.
Following a friendly match he organized, Musa spoke with media in Kaduna and dismissed reports that he was retiring.
“I only took a little break from the national team.
“But I didn’t exit the team,” he said, per Daily Post.
