Ex Super Eagles & WBA forward Peter Osaze Odemwingine has challenged the Nigerian team to play attacking football and aim for the World Cup 2026. Osaze Odemwingie, now 43 and having recently done a professional golfer’s course, looks back at his career that lasted over a decade in football.
Critique of Defensive Tactics
The Super Eagles were poor in the recent World Cup qualifiers they played to the extent of not winning any match, this put them in a very precarious position for the next World Cup in 2026.
Odemwingie opined that Nigeria can qualify if the players are more attacking, and he was unhappy with the current coach Jose Peseiro during AFCON 2023.
In another report from SportsBuddy, the Nigerian Football Federation have offered €2 million to Two time AFCON Winner to take over as new Eagles manager.

He said: “We have the players and materials needed personally I didn’t enjoy watching our team play in the last Nations Cup because we didn’t play like the best team. ”
He went on to explain that more caution should be exercised for top teams while at the same time being more aggressive in African competitions.
Speaking on Brila FM’s No Holds Barred, he opined that: “We must be more pragmatic against classy sides like Germany, Argentina and Brazil but more audacious in the African Cup. ”Odemwingie highlighted the need to win away games and confidently.
Coaching and Team Harmony

Currently there is no manager for the Super Eagles having been relieved of his duty after only two games by Finidi George.
Odemwingie wants the coaching position to be filled as soon as possible to bring stability to the team. “Our intention is to have no drama in the team and may there be no issues that will hinder us to work for the benefit of everyone,” he said.
Odemwingie asked the team to be daring and get back to the Nigerian flavour of football saying “Nigeria should know we are a big team in Africa, we should not play like small teams, I think we should attack in numbers and trust our defenders and our goalkeeper. ”
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda, Benin Republic, and Libya in their bid to qualify AFCON 2025, Rwanda and Benin Republic are also in the World Cup group of the Nigerian team.
