Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez finds himself in a big mess after he uploaded a controversial footage on his Instagram live video that has gone viral.
Sports Buddy recently reported about the video which captured the Chelsea midfielder and other Argentina national team players making offensive chants targeting the French national team.
The song implied that the players from France aren’t really French, making fun of their multi-ethnic background and especially those of African descent.
Enzo Fernandez issues apology
Enzo Fernandez has issued an apology for his actions. In a post on Instagram, he wrote,
“I want to apologize sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations. The song includes highly offensive language, and there is absolutely no excuse for these words.
“I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologize for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations. That video, that moment, and those words do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”
Chelsea have also issued a statement concerning the situation and the club have revealed that the club would instigate an internal disciplinary procedure.
According to Daily Mail, Fernandez’s could face a lengthy suspension, despite his apology, and this could jeopardize his stay at the club.
