England defender Trent Alexander Arnold has named his preferred candidate to replace recently departed manager Gareth Southgate, who led the Three Lions to the Euro 2024 final in Germany.
Sports Buddy recently reported that Southgate announced his resignation as England manager following a devastating 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. He had a contract that is meant to expire in December, but he chose to step down after almost eight years in the position.
With Southgate’s departure, England are in search of a replacement, with many names reportedly linked with the position.
Trent Alexander Arnold on England’s next manager
Trent, who previously lost another manager to resignation, shared in a recent interview, how he felt upon hearing the news of Southgate’s exit.
“It was similar to how I felt when my club manager Jurgen Klopp was leaving. They were the people who gave me my debuts, and made my dreams come true,” he said, per The Mirror.
When asked about Klopp, who quit as the Reds manager in May, as the new manager of England, he said, “I enjoyed every moment I worked with him, we shared amazing memories, forged an amazing relationship, an amazing bond. So of course if that were to happen, we would pick up where we left off.”
However he admitted, “I would be surprised if he did take it. It was clear when he announced when he was leaving, the conversations I have had with him, everything on social media, he seems to be enjoying his time off, so it would be a huge surprise.”
