Jurgen Klopp’s exit from Liverpool undoubtedly left almost every fan and player of the club heart-wrenched, with his former players still feeling nostalgic about their times together at the club.
An evidence of this can be seen in a recent report from Sports Buddy, where defender Trent Alexander-Arnold admitted he would be exited to have Klopp as his head coach in the England national team to replace the recently-departed Gareth Southgate. However, not everyone might share Trent’s sentiments.
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, in a recent interview, expressed how much fun he is having under newly appointed manager Arne Slot.
Arne Slot over Jurgen Klopp – Jones
”This is the happiest I’ve been,” said the 23-year-old England international, who was nothing more than a squad player for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.
He continued, ‘’Arne is amazing. It is probably the happiest I have been. In terms of a style of play, it suits us and the lads we have. It is a clear plan. He is fully involved in the training, coaches us a lot, he’s big on the finer details.
‘’My way of playing has always been a kid who wants to get on the ball and play, help the team, be comfortable on the ball. I then came around a team with world-class lads on the wing and up front. I felt like the centre midfielders were more disciplined runners.
‘’Of course, the principles are the same but now the midfielders are going to be the heart of the team. In terms of our build-up and being comfortable on the ball, we have to be more calm and play more as a team.
‘’We’re not in a rush to attack. We want to have the ball and break teams down. I feel more in the past, it was like a rush. We got the ball back. It was a bit too direct I’d say. Arne wants us to get the ball down and completely kill teams.”
Although it might sound unfair to find a negative spin to Jones’ comments, especially since he also idolized Jurgen Klopp in the same interview, his recent comments indicates he prefers Slot’s control-oriented style to the previous direct approach under Klopp, which sometimes evades the midfielders.
Jones, who is with the team on their pre-season tour, would be looking to impress the new manager in order to force his way into the team as a mainstay in the 2024–2025 season.
