D’Tigress of Nigeria have made history by qualifying for the quarter-final of the women’s basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The team secured their spot with a 79-70 victory over Canada in their final group game at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France, on Sunday.
Ezinne Kalu’s Stellar Performance

Game Highlights
This win has put D’Tigress in the quarter-final of the Olympic basketball competition for the first time in their history.
Nigeria finished on top of their group with five classification points and France had a match against Australia later in the day.
The team coached by Rena Wakama was defeated in the second match against France after they had beaten Australia in the first match as reported by Sportsbuddy.
The first quarter was tight and ended 18-18, with both teams still in close competition.
Canada slightly pulled away in the second quarter, leading 41-37 at the half. But in the third quarter, Nigeria outplayed the Canadians and gave them only five points.
D’Tigress dominated the final quarter which ensured the team produced a record breaking 9-point victory.
It therefore gives a good account of D’Tigress’ performance in the group stage and as they head to the quarter-finals which was a first in the history of women basketball in Nigeria.
