Pep Guardiola is set to lose one of his best players as Manchester City and Atletico Madrid reach an agreement.
Manchester City and Atletico Agree deal
According to reports, Argentine star Julian Alvarez is on the verge of joining the Spanish giants in a £82 million deal, six times the price he was bought by the Cityzens two years ago, per The Sun.
Alvarez’s request on leaving Pep Guardiola’s team
This comes after the striker hinted at a move away from the club, putting many clubs on alert, including Arsenal and Chelsea.
The World Cup winner had requested to leave the Premier League champions, with reports claiming that he turned down a new four-year contract as well, despite joining Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer of 2022.
It was also reported that the 24-year-old striker had requested that Manchester City place a reasonable price tag on him in order to facilitate an easy exit.
Alvarez has played 103 games since moving to the Etihad two seasons ago. During this period, he scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists; however, quite a number of his contributions have been as an auxiliary player to Erling Haaland, coming off the bench.
Despite playing more minutes than most of his colleagues in the previous season, Alvarez has complained about not being included in the most important games.
With a move to Atletico Madrid likely to fall through, Alvarez will be looking to step out of the Norwegian to become the first-choice striker for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
