Ben Chilwell recently described Trevoh Chalobah as the most underrated player at Chelsea, although the defender is part of the so-called ‘bomb squad,’ with Chelsea considering the players in the group as unnecessary ahead of a massive squad reshuffling.
Several players at Chelsea have been targeted for sale this summer after the club made new signings that have greatly transformed the team.
Prominent players in the ‘bomb squad’ include Raheem Sterling, Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah, and Chilwell himself.
Chalobah, signed by Chelsea at the age of eight, has been playing for their first team, making 80 appearances, but has been frozen out of the squad by the newly appointed manager, Enzo Maresca.
Chalobah’s Potential Departure
Although Chalobah has been a regular first-team squad member for Chelsea over the past three seasons, he was among the first players to be dumped out of the team for the new season, which gave an impression of his future.
Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United, among other clubs, have been linked to have interest in the 25-year-old key player; however, Chilwell opines that the decision to sell him would be unwise.
Ben Chilwell recently boasted about Chalobah in an interview with Fubo, when he said, ‘For me, I just enjoy watching TV plays.
He has good ball skills, he is an athletic man, and he is Chelsea to the core. That’s why I will say that Trev is one of the most underrated players because he stands out for me.’
Maresca’s Difficult Decision
Enzo Maresca said that selecting the final squad was strenuous and that it was frustrating not to take Chalobah into consideration, although it was a sad decision.
The Chelsea boss also emphasized that it is not his duty to trim the Chelsea squad as reported previously by Sportsbuddy.
Even though Ben Chilwell himself is also in the ‘bomb squad,’ his time at Chelsea is still unclear as the transfer deadline in the English Premier League nears.
Manchester United have shown some interest in the 26-year-old Englishman, but there has not been a bid put on the table yet.
