The former Manchester United striker, Teddy Sheringham, has criticised Erik ten Hag as doubtful for the Old Trafford tenure.
Sheringham expects the Dutch manager to be fired before the end of the season, or at least by Christmas time, having lost his team to both Liverpool and Brighton in the early weeks of this season.
“Do I think the manager will be there at the end of the season? No, I don’t,” he said at the launch of Ladbrokes’ Gaffer of all Accas. “I think he’ll be gone by Christmas.
Concerns Over Ten Hag’s Progress At Manchester United
While Sheringham has seen ten Hag deliver domestic cup successes in previous seasons, he still has doubts about the former Ajax manager’s improvement.
He recognised the cups won but said that they were not important when he was with the Manchester United team, adding that the League and Champions League cups should be Man United’s main targets.
The former Golden Boot winner said, according to The Mirror “I understand what he’s saying about the fact he’s won trophies, but the trophies that he’s talking about are the League Cup and the FA Cup. The League Cup, when I was playing for Manchester United, was an afterthought.
“If we managed to get to the final of that competition, then great. But that’s not important; what’s important is the Premier League and the Champions League, and then the FA Cup. Even the FA Cup wasn’t that important, really, if I’m being completely honest.”
Meanwhile, Sportsbuddy previously reported that William Gallas has raised concerns that Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca might be dismissed before Christmas.
Sheringham’s Outlook for United
Sheringham hinted that domestic cups like the League Cup and even the FA Cup don’t hold the same weight as top-tier competitions.
According to him, these wins don’t indicate that United are where they need to be, emphasising the importance of success in the Premier League and Europe as the true measure of progress.
