FC Copenhagen’s new signing, German Onugkha, has expressed his intent to ditch Russia represent Nigeria at the international level, despite previously being part of Russia’s national setup.
Born to a Russian mother and Nigerian father, the 28-year-old striker recently withdrew from Russia’s squad for their September 2024 friendlies, choosing instead to focus on his club career and future with Copenhagen.

Ready to Apply for Nigerian Passport
After making his unofficial debut for Copenhagen in a friendly, Onugkha revealed his plan to acquire Nigerian citizenship. ”
During the next month, I will try to get a Nigerian passport because my father is from there,” he said. He plans to visit the Nigerian Embassy in Copenhagen soon to begin the process. he said as quoted by BlaqSports.

Strengthening Nigeria’s Attack

Onugkha, who has played for various clubs, including FC Krasnodar and Vejle Boldklub, boasts 64 goals and 11 assists in 210 career games.
His strong form, including 15 goals in the Danish Superliga last season, makes him a potential asset for the Super Eagles, adding depth to an attack that already features Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface.
