After the 0-0 stalemate between the Super Eagles and Rwanda in their 2025 AFCON qualifier match, it was alleged that Augustine Eguavoen had resigned as interim coach.

The match played at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali raised eyebrows after Eguavoen’s post-match comments were allegedly misunderstood.

These rumours were, however, dismissed by Eguavoen after he clarified his position as the Super Eagles coach in Abuja.

Eguavoen dismissed the accusations as ‘fake and false’ and explained that his words were twisted out of context. Eguavoen insisted he was still in control of the team and dismissed the rumours as untrue.

The Super Eagles interim coach further stated that the comment he made after the match concerning sitting down meant sitting down with the NFF leadership to review the performance of the team after the two qualification matches.

He was particular: “I only spoke of meeting the hierarchy of the federation after these two games to know how to proceed in prosecuting the next games.”

The next encounter by the Super Eagles is against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya, which is expected to hold in mid-October at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo.
