The coach of Motherwell’s football team, Richard Foster, has been banned for six games as a result of speaking ill about a Cyriel Dessers goal that was made during Rangers 2-0 victory against St. Johnstone in the recent Scottish League Cup game held last month as revealed by The Scottish Sun.

Dessers was able to put his team ahead in the 61st minute with the help of Rabbi Matondo, though the goal had to be reviewed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Controversy Surrounding the Goal

The controversy erupted when St. Johnstone manager Craig Levein contended that referee Matthew MacDermid had first blown for a free kick before Dessers scored.

However, VAR consulted with MacDermid and allowed the goal to stand. After the match, on BBC Scotland’s Sportsound radio show, Foster launched a scathing attack on the referee, claiming, “Lies! It’s a lie. Unless he puts the whistle to his mouth for no reason.”

While Foster has since tender an apology for his words, the Scottish Football Association, or SFA, declared his comment as a violation of the disciplinary code.

He will now be suspended for the next immediate four games, while two more games will be served if he repeats the same move again.

On the other hand, Dessers will be hoping to score for Rangers after their defeat in the Old Firm derby against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership before the break, when they play Dundee United.
