Since 2023, David James has expressed his displeasure with Andre Onana’s performances after his high-profile move to Manchester United. The former England goalkeeper feels that Onana, brought in for his excellent ball control, hasn’t quite met expectations as of yet.

James recognised his ‘frustration’ with the Cameroon international, as he felt the player should have brought a more rejuvenating influence to the team’s play.

Andre Onana came in for David de Gea and appeared to be a keeper with the ability to bring variety through his distribution.

James pointed out that even though goalkeepers like Ederson have demonstrated their talent in long passes, Onana has not performed at the same level.

“For some reason, Onana hasn’t been the best version of himself,” James pointed out, showing his letdown that the shotstopper hasn’t fully expressed his passing range.

Andre Onana Falls Short in Premier League Rankings

James went as far as to argue that Onana doesn’t rank among the top six goalkeepers in the Premier League, though he clarified that “he’s more than capable of getting there.”

“Onana isn’t the best goalie in the league. At the moment, I wouldn’t put him in the top six, but he’s more than capable of getting there. I want to see him improve.”

Remembering other keepers, James mentioned how Onana’s disappointing form stacks up against David Raya at Arsenal, who he thinks is reaching his potential.

“I look at Arsenal’s signing of David Raya. He’s starting to fulfil the potential the club saw in him when they signed him, and you could say that he’s the best version of himself at Arsenal. That simply isn’t the case for Onana at United.” James concluded speaking to safestcasinosites.co.uk.
