Super Falcons of Nigeria may be without one of their top forwards, Ifeoma Onumonu, in today’s crucial WAFCON quarter-final game against Zambia in Casablanca. Head coach Justin Madugu has revealed the striker’s availability is still uncertain due to a health issue.
The American-based forward did not join her teammates during Wednesday’s training session. According to Coach Madugu, she was undergoing medical evaluation and has not been fully cleared yet. He stated that the technical crew is monitoring her closely and will make a final decision just before kickoff.
Although there is still hope that she could recover in time, her absence from training has raised concerns within the team’s camp. Sources around the Super Falcons confirmed that Onumonu’s situation remains a concern as the team prepares for a tough battle against a determined Zambian side.
“She didn’t train due to a medical issue,” the source told The Nation Newspaper. “We’re still waiting to see if she will be fit enough to play today.”
Onumonu has been a key part of Nigeria’s attack and losing her could be a major blow to the team’s plans.
Nigeria topped their group with seven points, winning two matches and drawing one. Zambia also finished their group stage with seven points, making today’s quarter-final clash a tightly matched contest.
