The Super Falcons of Nigeria sent a strong message at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a brutal 5-0 win over Zambia in Friday’s quarter-final match.
Following the commanding victory, the team captain Rasheedat Ajibade has now revealed what fired up the squad before the game.
According to Ajibade, Zambia’s confidence and pre-match talk pushed Nigeria to fight harder and prove a point on the pitch.
“There was a lot of talk from the Zambia camp, and we heard all of it. It was big motivation for us,” Ajibade said.
Zambia had impressed during the group stage, nearly beating hosts Morocco and securing wins over Senegal and DR Congo. Much of the attention was on their star forwards, Barbara Banda and Rachel Kundananji.
But when it mattered most, Nigeria showed no mercy.
With this dominant win, the Super Falcons are through to the semi-finals and one step closer to lifting the trophy again.
