The semifinal fixtures for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is set as Nigeria’s Super Falcons will go head-to-head with South Africa.
Both teams have a long-standing rivalry and are no strangers to high-pressure games with previous meetings in semifinals.
Nigeria stormed into the semifinals after a stunning 5-0 win over Zambia. It was a statement performance from the Falcons who are chasing another WAFCON title to add to their unmatched record.
South Africa, on the other hand, had a much tighter path to the last four.
After a tough game against Senegal that ended goalless, they held their nerve and won 4-1 in a dramatic penalty shootout. Their win sets up yet another clash between two of Africa’s biggest women’s football powerhouses.
This will be the fourth time Nigeria and South Africa are meeting in a WAFCON semifinal. Nigeria has won two of the previous three meetings.
With history on their side and a strong squad, the Falcons are confident. But South Africa are just as determined and will be looking to cause an upset.
In the second semifinal, Morocco will face Ghana in what could be a historic match. Neither team has ever won the tournament.
Morocco got past Mali with a 3-1 victory, while Ghana needed penalties to beat Algeria after a tense 0-0 draw.
