Arsenal kicked off their preseason tour with a narrow but important 1-0 win over Italian giants AC Milan in Singapore on Wednesday evening.

The English side stepped out at the National Stadium with a few fresh faces, including summer signings Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard.

Manager Mikel Arteta tested his new-look squad against the Serie A side in what turned out to be a highly tactical affair.

From the opening whistle, Arsenal looked sharp and focused. Their midfield moved the ball quickly and stayed in control for long periods.

Milan, however, sat back and soaked up the pressure, making it difficult for the Premier League side to find clear chances.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Gunners could not break the deadlock. Several promising moves fizzled out before reaching the final third.

The breakthrough finally came after the break. It was Bukayo Saka who made the difference. The England international finished a well-placed cross from Jakub Kiwior with a smart volley that flew past the Milan goalkeeper.

That goal seemed to lift Arsenal’s energy. They pushed forward to try and add to their lead. Reiss Nelson and Leandro Trossard both came close, with Trossard striking the post in the dying minutes.

AC Milan had their moments, but failed to trouble Kepa in goal. Arsenal’s defence stayed solid and made sure they kept a clean sheet.
