Liverpool’s 16-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha gave fans a glimpse of the future with a brilliant goal in a 3-1 win over Yokohama F Marinos in a preseason game.
Ngumoha came off the bench in the second half and immediately made an impact.
Playing wide on the left, he used quick feet and strong pace to trouble the defence. But it was his solo goal with just minutes left that captured the spotlight. He ran with confidence, beat more than one defender with ease, and then fired the ball into the corner with his right foot.
It was a moment that even made Mohamed Salah laugh from the sidelines. The young star, already the club’s youngest starter in FA Cup history, is quickly proving why there’s so much buzz around him.

Ngumoha was not the only young talent to impress. Eighteen-year-old Trey Nyoni and new signing Florian Wirtz also scored their first goals for the club. Nyoni slid in a cross from Jeremie Frimpong while Wirtz finished off a slick move involving Salah and Curtis Jones.
Debutant Hugo Ekitike also played but struggled to make an impact.
The Reds, led by new manager Arne Slot, looked off-pace in the first half. Yokohama created several chances and scored just after the break through sub Asahi Uenaka. But a wave of Liverpool changes flipped the game.
Slot named a strong starting side after a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan days earlier. Salah hit the post, and Gakpo came close, but the team lacked sharpness and were often caught out at the back. The match turned after halftime thanks to the substitutes, and especially the young players.
