Nigerian forward Christantus Uche is set to join Wolverhampton Wanderers after Getafe confirmed his transfer.
The Premier League club is expected to complete the deal once the 22 year old passes his medical tests tomorrow.
Uche made headlines after strong showings in LaLiga and an impressive display for the Super Eagles during the Unity Cup.
His energy, pace and goal scoring instincts caught the eye of several clubs but Wolves moved quickly to secure his services.
Getafe President Admits Financial Pressure
Speaking to Spanish media, Getafe president Angel Torres admitted that the club had no option but to sell. Financial restrictions have pushed the side to part ways with some of their key players in recent months.
“I am forced to sell him. I have no other choice,” Torres stated. “We did not want to sell our best players but the rules leave us with no alternative. We had to sell Alderete and now Uche. It is tough but we must follow the regulations.”
The club is expected to reinvest part of the transfer fee to strengthen the squad once the sale is finalised.
Reports suggest Getafe may look for a centre back or a forward to cover Uche’s departure.
Wolves Fans Excited for Fresh Attack Option
Uche is expected to travel to England immediately after medicals. Sources close to the deal suggest he could be available for Wolves’ next league match if registration is completed in time.
The signing is seen as a major boost for the team as they look to add more speed and sharp finishing to their attack.
Once the final paperwork is signed, Uche will officially become a Wolves player and begin training with his new teammates.
