Manchester United have begun personal discussions with Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi as they look to make a surprise addition to their midfield ahead of the 2025 season.
Ndidi, 28, has been a key figure at Leicester City for years. He won the FA Cup, Community Shield and most recently helped the club gain promotion from the Championship after their relegation from the Premier League.
But despite his loyalty, it appears his time at the King Power Stadium may be nearing its end.
Sources close to the club reveal that Manchester United are keen to add an experienced presence in midfield, and Ndidi’s name sits high on the list. The Red Devils are rebuilding under Ruben Amorim, and while new faces like Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have already arrived, the club is still seeking balance and strength in the middle of the park.
Ndidi’s current contract includes a clause that allows him to leave for just £9 million due to Leicester’s relegation last season. That affordable price has attracted several top clubs from Spain, Italy and Germany, but it is Manchester United who have taken the first real step by opening personal talks.
Although United brought in Manuel Ugarte last summer, the South American has struggled to settle into the Premier League. Ndidi is seen as a more reliable and ready option, given his years of top-level experience and ability to slot into both midfield and defensive roles.
If the deal goes through, he would become the second Nigerian to play for Manchester United, following in the footsteps of Odion Ighalo.
Those close to the player say he is open to the move. Manchester United are hoping to agree terms with him quickly so they can then approach Leicester with a formal offer.
