Tuchel Fumes Over Refusal

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel expressed strong disapproval towards Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg’s decision not to award a penalty. The incident involved Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes handling the ball after a restart from goalkeeper David Raya.

“We’re furious about the explanation on the pitch,” Tuchel stated. “The referee told our players it was a ‘kid’s mistake’ and wouldn’t give a penalty for such a thing in a Champions League quarter-final. This explanation is terrible because it implies he judges handballs based on age.”

Mikel Arteta Defends Referee’s Call

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, however, supported the referee’s choice, arguing that Arsenal gained no advantage from the situation.

“I noticed the incident, particularly due to their reaction,” Mikel Arteta acknowledged. “But I believe the referee followed the rules, which emphasize using common sense and determining if an advantage was gained. In this case, there wasn’t any.”

When questioned about addressing the incident with Raya and Gabriel, Arteta offered a more lighthearted response.

“Just to clarify,” Arteta said, “I think it’s worth reminding them to avoid such situations in the future.”
