The investigation into the on-pitch comment involving Mason Greenwood has concluded, closing the probe into Jude Bellingham.
Jude Bellingham was under investigation following an incident with Mason Greenwood during a recent match between Real Madrid and Getafe. However, the case has been dismissed.
The investigation into an alleged offensive remark made by Jude Bellingham towards Mason Greenwood during a recent La Liga match has been dismissed.
Bellingham accusations documented
The England and Real Madrid midfielder was reported to La Liga by Getafe last month after allegedly referring to Greenwood as “a rapist” during a match.
It was later reported that Greenwood wanted the probe dropped. The on-loan Manchester United striker had charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.
According to the mirror, The Spanish FA has now outlined that the investigation into the incident has been dismissed as it was not possible to prove such a term was used by Bellingham after expert lip-readers were asked to assess footage from the match.
The 20-year-old was seen on camera saying something to Greenwood after tackling the forward near the touchline in early February, a match that Real Madrid won 2-0.
Greenwood renewed hope on INEOS
Greenwood, 22, joined Getafe on loan in the summer after it was determined that he had no future with Manchester United. He has seemingly been offered an olive branch since by new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The Ineos chief outlined that the decision to move Greenwood on would be re-assessed by the club’s new regime this summer, saying: “It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made. He’s on-loan obviously, but he’s not the only one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.
“The process will be: understand the facts not the hype, and then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically is he a good guy or not?
“Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?” Greenwood is under contract with Manchester United until the summer of 2025.
