Manchester United has been associated with a potential transfer move for Portugal international Joao Neves, and the club’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, believes the teenager is prepared for a transition to a prestigious club such as the Red Devils
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes believes that Joao Neves is “ready” for a significant transfer this summer, with the Red Devils among several clubs expressing interest in the midfielder.
Neves has made a strong impression since making his breakthrough into Benfica’s first team last season, earning three caps for Portugal at just 19 years old.
Manutd prepare offer for Neves
Reports suggest that United are prepared to offer around £100 million for Neves in the upcoming transfer window, with the club’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, highlighting midfield reinforcement as a priority.
Fernandes responded by stating, “I don’t know if the United rumors are true, but I believe he is prepared for that significant step.”
“He is an excellent player, he’s with the national team… that’s also why the big clubs are after him.”
Bruno sings Neves praise
Bruno Fernandes reiterated his admiration for Joao Neves, emphasizing his quality and the attention he garners from top clubs.
This isn’t the first time Fernandes has expressed his desire to play alongside Neves at Manchester United.
Reflecting back to November, Fernandes commented on the potential of Neves joining United, stating, “It has to be the Man United coach who says whether he has a place or not.”
He praised Neves as a great player and professional, expressing his personal desire to have him as a teammate.
Fernandes emphasized that Neves possesses the quality for a bright future, but ultimately, it depends on him and the coach’s decisions.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica denies the existence of any right of first refusal over its player João Neves,” they stated.
“Under no circumstances has Sport Lisboa e Benfica entered into talks with Manchester United or any other club about this player from its youth academy – nor does it intend to do so – so any information to the contrary is false.”
Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake in the club was confirmed, significant changes have been underway.
