Wright Rages: Arsenal Missed Out with Star on Bench!
Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes the Gunners could have snatched victory against Manchester City on Sunday, had one key player been included in the starting lineup.
The 0-0 draw at the Etihad might be considered a positive result by most Arsenal fans, especially considering it extends their unbeaten Premier League run in 2024. However, Wright suggests a missed opportunity.

The tightly contested match saw both teams showcasing strong defensive strategies, with few clear chances created. While Arsenal’s defensive effort was commendable, Wright feels the attack lacked a vital element.
Martinelli’s Pace: The Missing Ingredient – Wright
Leandro Trossard’s unsuccessful counter-attack highlighted the potential absence of a player known for his speed. Wright, speaking on Wrighty’s House, believes Gabriel Martinelli’s presence could have changed the game’s outcome.

“Today was just fantastic in the way that we all stayed very disciplined with what we’re doing,” Wright said. “Can I be honest? If Martinelli’s playing that game, I think we win that game.”
The Arsenal legend elaborates on how Arsenal’s deep defensive strategy, while effective, limited their offensive options. He emphasizes the value that Martinelli’s pace would have brought to the Gunners’ attack.

“We were so low in respect of getting out of our third that I was thinking we’re going to be in trouble here,” Ex-Gunners striker continued. “We were so low…it seemed like such a long way to go without someone like Martinelli, who looks to do that [attack with pace].”
The introduction of Martinelli as a substitute offered a glimpse into the attacking potential he brings to the team. Ian acknowledges the impact this has on the opposition’s strategy.
“So they’ll try and give us a little bit more space to deal with Martinelli,” the Arsenal legend said. “So I was pleased to see him come on because it makes Man City have to think of something totally different.”

With Martinelli back to full fitness, Arsenal fans will be eager to see him make a significant contribution in the remaining Premier League matches.
