Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface was on the scoresheet for Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter-final first-leg game against Westham.
After being sidelined for more than four months due to injury, Boniface made his comeback for the German side. He entered the game in the 76th minute, as he replaced Patrik Schick.
Victor Boniface’s stunning return: Making a massive impact
The Nigerian striker wasted no time in making an impact, showcasing his skills with an impressive hold-up play. He swiftly turned and elegantly laid off a pass to Jonas Hofman, only for West Ham’s goalkeeper Lucas Fabianski to anticipate the move and clear the danger with a decisive intervention.
After dominating the game for so long, Bayer Leverkusen was later rewarded with a goal in the 83rd minute, with Boniface being involved. The Nigerian striker’s shot was blocked and fell to the path of Hofman who volleyed the ball into the net.
Victor Boniface then netted a header from Hofmann’s cross, giving Alonso’s team a pivotal advantage in the first leg as he extended his goal tally to fifteen in twenty-three games for Bayer Leverkusen.
