Ole Gunnar Solskjaer former Manchester United manager, is reportedly in discussions with Premier League club about potential return to management. Since being dismissed by Manchester United in November 2021 he has been linked with various roles. He has remained selective about his next move.
Solskjaer 51, has managerial history with Cardiff City and Molde. He led United to back-to-back top-four finishes and a Europa League final. Despite his sacking in 2021 his tenure saw United finish second in the 2020-21 Premier League season.
Recently, he was rumored to be a strong candidate for the Republic of Ireland job. He was close to securing the Besiktas managerial role but Giovanni van Bronckhorst was ultimately appointed.
Leicester City Potential New Home for Solskjaer
Reports suggest that he could soon be taking reins at newly-promoted Leicester City. The 2016 Premier League champions face an uncertain future. This comes after their previous manager’s departure. The ongoing off-field issues including alleged breaches of Premier League profit and sustainability rules, add to their questions. His experience could be pivotal in navigating Leicester through these challenges. Particularly as they return to top flight.
According to The Sun Solskjaer is keen on idea of managing at King Power Stadium. Leicester, who are drawing up a shortlist to replace their outgoing manager. They see Solskjaer as strong candidate. His previous success in stabilizing Manchester United after Jose Mourinho‘s departure weighs in his favor. “It didn’t work out for me it didn’t work out for Cristiano. But it was right decision at time,” Solskjaer said. He was reflecting on his time managing Cristiano Ronaldo at United.
If appointed he would work with veteran forward Jamie Vardy. Vardy recently signed one-year contract extension with Leicester. Solskjaer is now also UEFA technical observer.
