Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has been linked with a return to take over the national team, Sports Buddy reports
The 63-year-old Portuguese resigned from the position in February after his contract expired, having led the Super Eagles to a second place finish in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sports Buddy recalls that Finidi George, who took over from Peseiro, resigned just weeks after his appointment, as a result of an in-house dispute with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), after series of disappointing results with the team.
Jose Peseiro’s link to Super Eagles
Peseiro was recently linked with the head coach position at Mamelodi Sundowns, a team in South Africa.
Despite this, Gerald Baloyi of the local firm Vodia Sports International Management, claims Peseiro is in talks to rejoin the Super Eagles.
“Yes Vodia Sports International Management offered Jose Peseiro to Sundowns, though the Nigerian national teams are interested in bringing him to take over again,” Baloyi said, per Complete sports.
Prior to the Super Eagles’ September 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya, the NFF is expected to announce the appointment of a new head coach.
