Ollie Watkins has revealed the shocking conversation between him and fellow substitute Cole Palmer before combining to score England’s winning goal in their Euro 2024 semifinal clash with the Netherlands.
Watkins and Palmer come on as late substitutes to replace Harry Kane and Phil Foden, respectively. The Aston Villa striker collected a well-weighted pass from Palmer in the 90th minute before turning to send a low-driven shot across the face of goal into the bottom corner.
Ollie Watkins on conversation with Palmer

After the game, Ollie Watkins, in an interview with ITV, revealed how delighted he was to have been the hero of the day.
“Unbelievable,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for that moment for weeks. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get where I am today, grateful that I got the opportunity and I grabbed it with both hands. I’m delighted.”

The 28-year-old attacker then revealed a conversation he had with Palmer on the bench before coming on.
”I swear on my life, I swear on my kids’ life, I said to Cole Palmer: ‘We’re coming on and you’re going to set me up today’. And that’s why I was so happy, Watkins revealed.
“I knew as soon as he got the ball he was going to play me and then you’ve got to be greedy: touch and finish. And when I seen it go in the bottom corner… oh my life. Best feeling ever,” he added.
Following the victory, England will now face Spain in the final, where they will be looking to clinch their first European Championship title and their first trophy since 1966.
