Lionel Messi’s dedicated bodyguard, Yassine Cheuko, has revealed why he is so dedicated to protecting the Argentine star.
Cheuko, who was handpicked by David Beckham to protect Messi after his move to Inter Miami, has proven to be the best man for the job.
The former Navy SEAL has already established himself as a regular presence on the sidelines, ensuring Messi’s safety at all times.
Cheuko made a big impression and showed his dedication to defending the football legend when he tackled an overly enthusiastic supporter at an Inter Miami game earlier this year.

Cheuko recently spoke about how Messi has accepted him not only as a bodyguard but also as a buddy.
The former soldier said, according to the Daily Mail: “Messi does not consider me only his bodyguard but also a friend. We talk, we laugh, and get to know our personalities together.
“He always invites me to lunch and treats me well.”
Cheuko recounts Messi’s heartfelt gesture
Cheuko also related a really touching story that strengthened their relationship.
Messi made a heartfelt gesture during a plane ride in 2023, after winning his eighth Ballon d’Or.
Chueko disclosed that Lionel Messi presented him with the esteemed trophy he had earned for the eighth time, in the presence of his family.
“When he won the Ballon d’Or, we were on the plane and he told me, ‘Yassine, carry the Ballon d’Or in your hand!’ I told him, ‘Okay…’ At first I thought he wanted me to carry it somewhere else.
“And then when I carried it, he said to his son and wife: ‘The winner of the Ballon d’Or for the best bodyguard is Yassine.’
Cheuko, reminiscing on the memorable moment, continued:
“It was a beautiful moment and words I will never forget from the best player in the world.
“I feel as if I am part of his family and I am trying hard to protect him not only from the physical side but also from the psychological side, because he trusts me a lot and depends on me and for my part I give all my focus to him. He is very humble.”
