Super Eagles star Sadiq Umar might be in deep water after posting a picture of himself on social media making an offensive gesture.
Sadiq, who had a dismal season at Real Sociedad, is in the spotlight, with the club looking to cash him on him this summer.
The 27-year-old striker signed for the Basque-based club from Almeria last summer for a club-record deal worth €20 million.
However, he has failed to impress, managing just three goals and providing one assist in 26 appearances in La Liga.
Super Eagles star’s post
Sadiq stirred controversy with one of his recent social media posts – an action which could incur punishment from the club.
The Super Eagles player posted an Instagram photo of a middle finger, which is code for “f*** you.”
Although Sadiq’s motivation for sending the mysterious message is yet unknown, it might be a message to Real Sociedad after being told he was no longer required by the club.
But a few minutes later, Sadiq took down the initial post and put up a new one in which he apologized and clarified that it was not directed at anyone in particular.
He wrote, “Apologies on my recent post, it was a post by mistake. I didn’t do it intentionally. I am not referring to something or against anyone. Thanks for your understanding, you all should stay blessed.”
What next for Sadiq Umar?
Real Sociedad are yet to respond to the message; however, if discovered that it was addressed at them, it would exacerbate their already strained relationship .
Getafe is said to be Sadiq’s likely destination since he is rumored to be leaving Real Sociedad this summer.
Meanwhile, Sports Buddy reported in other news that Super Eagles and Nantes FC forward Simon Moses is out of action again this year 2024 as he has suffered his second injury this year.
