Former Arsenal winger Perry Groves has encouraged the Gunners to prioritize signing Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window if a deal for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak proves unattainable.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Groves expressed admiration for Osimhen’s prolific form at Galatasaray and highlighted his potential impact at Arsenal.

Osimhen’s Stellar Form at Galatasaray

Currently on loan from Napoli, Osimhen has excelled in Turkey, netting 14 goals and contributing six assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.

Groves described the Nigerian international as one of Europe’s most “lethal and fearsome” strikers, capable of transforming Arsenal’s attack amid injuries to Gabriel Jesus and the inconsistent performances of Kai Havertz.

Groves acknowledged the difficulty of prying Isak away from Newcastle United in January.

The Swedish forward has been crucial for Newcastle, tallying 15 goals and five assists in 20 Premier League games this season as they push for Champions League qualification.

With Newcastle unlikely to sell mid-season, Groves emphasized the importance of exploring alternatives like Osimhen.

“You ain’t gonna get Isak because Newcastle, even though they had a bad result on the weekend, they’re still looking to see if they can get into the Champions League, so they’re not going to get Isak. In a heartbeat,” Groves said when asked about signing Osimhen. “If it means you pay over the odds or take a player on loan, a top-level centre-forward would make a massive difference to Arsenal.”

Havertz’s Mixed Performances

While Kai Havertz has scored eight goals in 19 Premier League games this season, his performances as a makeshift striker have drawn mixed reviews.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to bolster his attacking options in January to maintain the Gunners’ Premier League and Champions League ambitions.
